The Faculty of Law offers a wide range of subjects and uses a variety of teaching methods. The curriculum provides both a general liberal education and a foundation for careers not only in the legal profession, but also in fields as diverse as public service, local government, social services, higher education, armed forces, business, industry, media, finance and accounting. Courses at universities and colleges in the UK range from LLB degrees, which provide the skills and knowledge needed to practice law, to BA/BSc degrees that focus more on law as an academic subject. As with other academic courses, it is possible to combine many different subjects. Common combinations include law with economics, management, criminology, accounting, police, and a modern foreign language. Study the other basic legal subjects common to all fundamental law degrees: Fundamental Principles of EU Law; Fundamental principles of land law; Fundamental Principles of Trust Law. Also choose five modules from a wide range of elective courses to study in a specialized field. The LLB program requires you to study several LLB core subjects during your three-year qualifying law degree. There are seven compulsory LLB modules that make up this particular legal degree. Admission requirements range from BCC to AAA, with universities and colleges most often requiring ABB. Note that some universities may not accept subjects such as sports, arts, photography, and dance as one of the three main A levels. In addition to A levels or equivalent, you`ll also need five GCSEs (A-C), including Science, English, and Math. There are no essential topics you need to take at Level A (or equivalent) to become a lawyer. However, to show that you have the skills, choose topics that involve research, analysis, and communication — such as history, geography, modern languages, science, or math — as they can give you an edge. Be aware that many universities do not accept general studies or A-levels critical thinking. The wide range of skills and topics you have learned during your studies opens up many opportunities when you graduate. Many UCL law graduates move directly to professional studies and train to become lawyers or lawyers. New graduates have also opted for employment in government, political services and a number of industries. Some have decided to continue their university studies. The module examines the justification of intellectual property rights and their commercial importance; the broader national, European and international dimension of the legal regime of intellectual property rights; and the right to acquire, exploit and infringe copyright and related rights, including the application of copyright in the context of modern information technology developments. In this module, you will examine the relationship between the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. You will also be encouraged to participate in activities such as debate, national and international debate (a legal debate) and volunteering. Combined with your law degree, these activities will help you develop a wide range of skills and build your confidence. This module provides insight and critical perspective on legal ethics, professional conduct and professional regulation, and provides a foundation for understanding the role of lawyers in society and contemporary legal practice. Candidates are assessed through their UCAS applications, the National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT) and, in the case of laws with a language programme, a language proficiency assessment interview. The LNAT is a requirement for all applicants and applicants must complete it before the UCAS deadline for the cycle in which they are applying. Applicants must link the LNAT registration details to UCL. While your proven academic results are important, legal knowledge is not required. Demonstrating your perseverance in previous achievements (e.g.
in your academic work) as well as a strong, authentic and intelligent motivation to study law will contribute to your successful admission to UCL.
