Please note that employment at the NSA is contingent upon an applicant`s U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a top secret/special intelligence clearance. The NSA regularly seeks highly motivated and accomplished lawyers from diverse backgrounds to join our dynamic and challenging practice. The NSA employs a team of elite lawyers who provide legal advice to the agency in the execution of our missions. Our lawyers analyze current technical and intelligence issues and often provide legal advice related to high-profile current events affecting our national security.
They use their expertise, skills and training to solve a variety of challenges found in the private sector or any other government agency. This important work ensures that the agency`s work complies with the law while protecting our national security and civil liberties. The hiring offices in the specialization program and the number of entry-level lawyer positions vary from year to year. See the list of participating components this year. The program is three-year in duration that includes rotations in two of OGC`s legal practice groups, which include operational authorities; operational support; Administrative and ethical law; Acquisition, research and technology; Litigation; Legislation; and Law and Politics. Each honorary attorney will go through at least one practice group that advises directly on the NSA`s missionary activities. Lawyers selected for the Legal Specialization program also have the opportunity to attend high-level security briefings, congressional meetings and hearings on national security matters, work directly with partners in the intelligence community and other federal agencies, and tour facilities throughout the intelligence community while working under the direction and mentorship of a Senior Counsel who will guide them from the direction of the OGC. NSA lawyers use their skills and experience to provide legal advice to executives and staff involved in or supporting the agency`s foreign intelligence and cybersecurity missions. They also represent the agency`s interests in federal and state courts and help policymakers resolve important and complex legal issues facing the NSA now and in the future. Given the novelty, complexity and national significance of most of these issues, our lawyers feel that they work in one of the most challenging and professionally challenging law firms, whether in the public or private sector.
In the course of their duties, NSA lawyers provide legal advice on a variety of matters, including those common to the general counsel office of a large corporation, but also those specific to the NSA`s national security mission. These topics include: cybersecurity, procurement and procurement, research and development, environmental law, patents, telecommunications, security, legislation, litigation, ethics, and employment and human resources issues. Since 1953, the Attorney General`s Specialization Program has been recognized as the nation`s first entry-level program for federal prosecutors. The honours program attracts applicants from hundreds of law schools across the country, representing a wide range of experiences and interests. Selection is made based on many elements of a candidate`s background, including a demonstrated commitment to government service, academic achievement, leadership, review, mock trial and mock trial experience, clinical experience, previous employment, and extracurricular activities related to judicial work and the relevant component.
