Michael Hovane has been a lawyer for over 28 years and has worked for Legal Aid WA for 20 years, where he leads the domestic violence unit and works as a litigator, ICL and FDRP in the Family Law Practice Unit. Michael is passionate about the field of family violence and the need to work holistically and collaboratively, and has played a key role in establishing a number of multidisciplinary interagency family violence services and partnerships for health justice. He was seconded twice by the Ministry of Justice to work on domestic violence legislation. He was seconded to a political position at National Legal Aid in 2018 to help file with the ALRC Family Law Review.
